My name is Rebecca Rodriguez. I am currently in my third year of undergraduate studies at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. I am majoring in journalism and minoring in communication studies.
I first applied to be a sociology major and then switched to psychology during my orientation in hopes of studying to be a forensic psychologist. I quickly realized that psychology was not for me.
Switching to journalism was shocking, even for me. When I was in high school, I enrolled in a journalism class as a freshman for one of my electives. I hated every minute of it (probably because the teacher I had didn’t really like me) and the class seemed to ruin the subject for me as a whole.
After thinking it over for several weeks, I realized that journalism might be the best fit for me after all. I enjoy writing and think the field could open opportunities for many different jobs.
After I graduate with my bachelor’s, I plan to attend graduate school, hopefully somewhere out of state. I think it is very important to expand my horizons and experience a change of scenery, especially when I’m from a big state like Texas.
When I go to grad school, I want to attend somewhere up north. I pretty much have my eyes set on Syracuse University because of their excellent mass communications school. However, I have started to look at several universities all over the United States.
The ultimate goal for me would be to write for a magazine for a while. After hopefully saving enough money, I would love to travel the world and write about what I’ve seen and where I’ve been. That is why I am grateful for an opportunity to experiment with a blog such as this one.
